RIVERTON, Utah – April 18, 2007 – iBert Inc., manufacturer of the safe-T-seat, today announced it is a top ten finalist in the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association’s 2007 Innovation Awards Competition to be held in conjunction with the International JPMA Show running April 23-25, 2007 in Orlando, Florida.

 

The iBert safe-T-seat is a front-mounted bicycle seat that places the child between the adult rider and the handlebars giving parents improved control over both the child and the bicycle. The safe-T-seat uses a specially designed, easy-to-use attach/detach system that fits most bikes on the market today and is easily recognized by its fun, bright green color.

 

The JPMA Innovation Awards Competition, held annually at the International JPMA Show, highlights some of the most exciting new products in the marketplace today. Each year, more than 100 exhibiting companies enter their most cutting edge products for this renowned competition, but only 10 are selected. Entries are evaluated by a selection committee of trade media representatives and industry retail buyers, and judged on their innovation, marketability, trend-setting potential, appeal and usefulness.

 

The International JPMA Show is the only show that represents all segments of the prenatal to preschool market and offers a glimpse into the trends, innovation and safety development on the horizon of the juvenile products industry. Industry buyers come from around the world to choose from thousands of the newest, most innovative products for their retail stores, making this the premier opportunity for manufacturers to attract new business and grow existing accounts.

 

“As a cycling parent I was familiar with all of the traditional family cycling options and just felt that there had to be a better way for everyone to enjoy the ride,” said Kelly Eissinger, president of iBert and developer of the safe-T-seat. “The bicycle trailers were too hot and dusty for my kids and I always felt like rear-mounted seats put too much weight on the back of my bike — making maneuvering the bike more difficult. I also found that the European and Canadian front-mounted seats often didn’t fit my American-made bicycle or had a complicated mounting system that took forever to attach.”

 

Eissinger’s safe-T-seat design includes a unique and easy mounting system, a better fit for bicycles made in the USA and a slightly higher mounting position that saves the adult rider’s knees from the scrapes and bruises that result from hitting the underside of other child carrier seats. She has also worked with Phil Cutler, the father of the bicycle helmet, to make sure her design met all ASTM 1625-00 standards for rear-mounted seats. Eissinger is in the process of petitioning the ASTM to create safety standards for front-mounted seats.

 

“We officially launched the safe-T-seat back in May of 2006 and honestly had very humble predictions for the first year of sales,” said Eissinger. “We have been pleasantly surprised as hundreds of retailers and consumers have purchased the safe-T-seat over the past year.”

 

The innovative safe-T-seat is the result of six years of research and development to provide parents with a safer and easier way to enjoy family bike rides.
